On Top of a Hill – live looping improv / demo

March 10, 2014
State Shirt

Here’s a song that I’d consider, using music industry vernacular, a “demo”. I wanted to start out with a completely ridiculous sound and try to turn it into a song. This is the result. Maybe this will turn into an album track, I’m not sure yet. Hope you enjoy checking out this work in progress. 🙂 buy steal Gear list if you’re interested: Circular Labs Mobius looping software on my Macbook Pro….    read more

Vocals: Line 6 DL4 » Strymon TimeLine. Guitar: Fender Toronado » Strymon OB.1 Optical Compressor » Sarno…    read more

Looping Tips and Techniques

I recently had the opportunity to contribute an article for Premier Guitar magazine. The topic? Something very dear to my heart—looping tips and techniques! “If you want to take your looping from four-bar bedroom jams to a performance environment, start thinking of your looper as an instrument, not an effect. Creating engaging loop performances can require the same type of effort that you put into learning guitar. Really get to know your…    read more

Life had gotten a little crappy there for a bit. Really didn’t record any music in the last 8 months. Finally moved into a new place and have the studio set up again. A quick looping improv idea turned into a song. This is the second take. Everything performed and recorded live. 🙂 buy  steal [mp3j track=”A Happy Future@http://stateshirt.com/audio/videosongs/stateshirt_ahappyfuture.mp3″ flip=”y”] Lyrics: Calm down, you don’t need to worry. Recorded this one a few months back. Set up four cheapo digital cameras and recorded a rehearsal of the song “Time to Go”. All sounds created live, nothing prerecorded.

Live looping improvisation with Echoplex Digital Pro

Here is a looping improv I recorded yesterday. My live setup is constantly evolving, but I do tend to keep a few things as part of my basic arsenal: two Gibson/Oberheim Echoplex Digital Pro units, a Line 6 DL4 delay modeler and expression pedal, Line 6 AM4, Boss DF-2, Line 6 Echo Park, el cheapo Tapco mixer, and a Behringer FCB1010. This video has a pedal/foot cam for the people who have…    read more

New song. Kitchen rehearsal.

I’ve been playing around with a new live setup that includes a couple drums and keyboards, as well as guitar and my usual effects and looper pedals. I just wrote this song yesterday, still not 100% sure on the song title yet. I set up all of my crap in the kitchen and recorded a little live performance. Hope you like it.
