Let’s Get Bloody music video by Jeremy J Quinn

Here’s the music video for my song “Let’s Get Bloody”. This was conceived, shot and edited by Jeremy J Quinn (JeremyJQuinn.net) with additional camera by Michele Jaquis. Statues provided by guy selling statues in Hollywood. Thanks Jeremy for putting this together!! :)

Here are some photos that I took during the video shoot.

Dig Believe [video song cover]

Here is my cover version of a track you may remember from the early 1990s from the band Dig. This one was in pretty heavy rotation on MTV’s old “buzz bin” back in the day. I recorded this in a “video song” format—what you see is what you hear, all video captured during the creation of the song (with the exception of the outdoor footage which was taken in my back yard).

OMD Souvenir cover song

Hey. I just finished recording a cover of “Souvenir” by OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark). I’d consider this mix a “beta” mix, but it’s pretty close. Listen below:

Souvenir – DOWNLOAD

I haven’t created a music video for my cover version yet, but for the time being check out the original OMD video below. I’d like to do a similar video, except I’ll be driving my racecar wearing my full race gear and helmet. And instead of driving off into the distance at the end, I’ll do a bunch of donuts and smokey burnouts.

Please Stop!

Just put together a music video for my new song “Please Stop”. Everything was shot in los angeles.

Please Stop – DOWNLOAD

lyrics

please stop believing
that nature will care for you
crawl up the river
and embrace your solitude.

heartbeat slows, your wounds won’t close?

please stop believing
that your friends can keep you safe
squeeze your little hands
they tingle, but you can still feel

don’t come around here anymore
it’s the only thing i ask of you

please stop your talking
who is that in my head?
please stop, i don’t want to go
i know you barely had a chance to know
please let me go quickly
will it hurt? i could be wrong.

Let’s Get Bloody [live looping]

Song-a-week / video-a-week #5. “Let’s Get Bloody”. Recorded for the upcoming SongFight. This was recorded live, nothing prerecorded, nothing overdubbed after the fact… all live looping.

Let’s Get Bloody – DOWNLOAD

This was recorded live using two Gibson Echoplex Digital Pro’s, a Casio SK-8, Yamaha DX21, Line 6 DL4 and my voice. If you have any questions or comments about the setup, gear or the song in general, please comment below. :)

Crush music video – stop motion animation

Last week I recorded the new song “Crush”. Hope you like it.

Crush – DOWNLOAD – Lyrics

This week I gave myself the challenge of creating a music video in 7 days.

Budget was $0. The shopping cart was left on my street and the paper was from old fashion and art magazines. Ok I guess there was a little expense because I bought Dragon stop motion animation software (which is awesome by the way). This is my first foray into stop motion animation but I’m sure I’ll do more… it’s incredibly time consuming but supah fun.

Thanks to Angela Heine for shooting the shopping cart footage and for pushing me around for an hour!

Now I must sleep…

Electronic “Disappointed” cover

electronic_stateshirtI just finished recording a cover of Electronic’s “Disappointed”. I had never even heard the original song until about a month ago. Hell I had never even heard of the band. But there was something really good at the core of this song and I wanted to try a version of my own.

In case you also didn’t know, Electronic were an “alternative dance group formed by New Order singer and guitarist Bernard Sumner and ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr.” Thanks Wikipedia. I’m a fan of both New Order and Johnny Marr. Not sure how I missed this band? The track “Disappointed” is from 1992 and made a dent on US charts, and even features Neil Tennant of Pet Shop Boys on vocals. Though I guess I can see how I missed this song–terrible early 90′s bands like UB40, Snow and Color Me Badd really soured me on pop music at the time. But this Electronic song was fun to dig into.

Here’s my version of Electronic’s “Disappointed”. Click below to play. Hope you like it:

Disappointed – Lyrics

If you could cover a song, what would it be? What other songs should I cover?

And just for fun, here’s the original (and strange) video from 1992. Primitive computer graphics, Neil Tennant looking bored, some dude holding a giant gold sphere. Enjoy

Slap Chop remix video – “I Am A Target”

Long story short:
- I was inspired by Steve Porter’s Slap Chop infomercial remix featuring Vince Offer of ShamWow! fame.
- Decided it was necessary to create a State Shirt Slap Chop remix. And submit it to SongFight. And create a music video. In 7 days. Here are the results.

MP3 of the song “I Am A Target”

Here’s the music video/remix video. Click here to watch in HD!

Long story long:

The last week was a unique learning experience for me. I had just heard Steve Porter’s remix of the Slap Chop infomercial. It’s pretty great. That got me thinking, how do you even create a youtube video remix? It took a few minutes playing around to realize that Ableton Live is a great place to start.

So I just kinda started piecing together parts of the original Slap Chop commercial, and found that some of the voice samples were downright somber when taken out of context. Started to write a song around the samples and quickly realized that this track could work out well as a SongFight entry. After some guitar, piano, synths, drums and vocals, the song was finished in a few hours.

Then some weird-ass crazy shit happened. I must have gone to sleep and had a crazy dream about being an infomercial salesman or something, because I woke up knowing that I needed to buy a blue apron and a shitty 13″ television in order to build a music video for the song. Total budget = $26! I borrowed a sweet Panasonic HVX200 and started shooting. Angela Heine shot some of the outdoor footage. Editing was done in Final Cut.

Overall it was a pretty fun experience to put together a song and accompanying video in just one week. Weird thing is I didn’t set out to do any of this, it just sorta happened. I need a beer (or four) now.

Music video shoot – final day

After four very full and busy days, the shooting for the “Fell Out Of The Sky” music video has come to an end. Today was the greatly anticipated party scene, which wouldn’t have been possible without all of our friends, who had to take a break from their busy lives to eat, drink and be merry. Editing for the video starts next week!

Not a whole lot of time for me to take many photos today, so I only have a few to post for now. I’ll try to dig around for some more soon.

Music video shoot – day 3

Holy crap today was a lengthy and intense day of filming! Tomorrow is the last day, the big fancy party scene. Here are a few photos from today:

Music video shoot – day 2

So the second day of shooting has come to an end. We got some amazing shots and the actors were all outstanding. One more weekend of filming coming up, and then we’re off to editing! Here are some photos of the day:

Music video shoot – day 1

Today was the first day of filming for the “Fell Out Of The Sky” music video! The unbearable smoke and ash from the Sylmar fire forced us to change ALL of our locations today, but we were fortunate to find some great alternate locations. All of the actors and crew were great! More shooting tomorrow, and next weekend as well. Here are some photos:

New Album.

New State Shirt album will be titled This is Old. Release date will be chosen very soon. Working on obtaining amazing photography for the album artwork. Had a sick fucking dream last night, hoping I can scrounge up enough money to turn it into a music video. More soon.

Straw Man music video

Ok, i know this song isn’t exactly new. But we recently completed a music video for the song. Here it is, the official debut of the “Straw Man” music video. Hope you like it!

Slightly higher res version is here!

‘Computer’ video

I’ve been rehearsing a bunch lately and figured I’d set up a couple cameras. Here is a video of me playing my new song ‘Computer’. It’s all live looping, no prerecorded audio.
