didn’t crash, didn’t finish last

Here are the last two quite eventful laps of the Sunday race at California Speedway. Started 19th out of 25 cars, finished 15th!

No longer a bump drafting virgin

So I’m out here at California Speedway in lovely Fontana, CA this weekend. We’re running the 2.8 mile, 21 turn course which utilizes about 1/2 of the speedway oval. Top speed for me was about 121mph with a draft, could probably almost hit 130mph with a better driver and a better prepared car.

Today I qualified 23rd out of 27 cars (whoo hoo, not last!) and I think I managed to finish 19th. Had fun bump drafting and battling with Brandon Johnson, who managed to stay in front of me for most of the race even with a bad clutch, but I was able to finally get around him on the last lap. Today was the first day I’ve ever bump drafted, here are a couple highlights below. I guess I’m no longer a bump drafting virgin.

I was the first to arrive in the garage on Thursday night, so I got a few nice shots of my car:

New drum mic clips

I’m really excited about my new drum mic clips! Check them out! Ok, you’re probably thinking, “Really, a blog post about drum mic clips? And he’s excited about them? And I’m still reading this shit?” But, aren’t they, beautiful? They actually work!

Ok, ok. So they just hold microphones above my drums so I can go on making my little songs. But wait, you see, the last 2 years of my life has been a never-ending spree of breaking these little fuckers.

Let me just say this. Do not ever, EVER buy the Samson DMC100 drum mic clip set. I made the sorry mistake of buying two 3-piece sets. I’ve gone through 6 of these. Every last one broke. You know, doing simple things, like, attaching it to the fucking drum or attaching a fucking microphone to the clip. If you like to start recording a drum track and get rudely interrupted because your SM57 is now dangling by your feet, then please go right ahead and buy these abysmal pieces of shit. In fact, I just broke one now trying to carefully remove it from my snare drum. I thought it would at least be worthy of a backup, but it can’t even manage to do that. (Oh, and the Audix mic clips suck too).

Finally, I found a set of drum mic clips that someone actually put a little thought into before manufacturing them. They’re rugged, sturdy, and very adjustable. Please, if you record drums and are in the market for a drum mic clip, buy the Shure A56D. It’s a beautiful thing. And yes, I am actually excited.

Replica lyrics

Wrote some new lyrics. Now I need a song.

I’ve created a replica of my life in my head.
A place where I can sleep with the lights off.
Kiss on the lips, follow me home

I like to fight, it runs in my family.
I like to drink, it ruins my family.

Throw away all the knives
Call the doctor, don’t step, broken glass
Cracked yellow linoleum, little red splash

I’ve created a replica of my life in my mind.
No longer angry all of the time,
Lie in the vermont snow, I know i can die.

I like to drink, it runs in my family.
I like to fight, it ruins my family.

Throw away the gasoline
Call the fireman, don’t step, broken glass
Faded cedar walls, little red splash

Still a rookie

So it’s been a while (6 months) since I’ve been on a race track. And I’m still on my rookie license. So I was quite surprised when I didn’t qualify dead last for my recent race at Willow Springs Raceway. I started 15th out of 22 cars and managed to finish 15th. I lost 5th gear the day before but I still managed to do okay with only 4 gears. Here are a few laps from the race.

And here are a few photos:

Teru – Enter…
Decaying_Machine – Chemma Chi [dark times machine rmx]
Ballzac – Fell Out Of The Sky (commercial dance remix)

I remixed myself
Is it a faux pas to remix yourself? A couple days ago I created a mashup of several Vidian songs with my song “Life Isn’t Everything”. It also features vocals from c.layne, Brad Sucks and Kristen Hersh for good measure. Definitely doesn’t sound like State Shirt– has more of a Daft Punk feel.
